Slow but solid gameplay, though there are some major balance/difficulty issues - and to counteract those you need to grind quite a bit. The graphics are similar to a space RTS, though you have far less units than a normal RTS.
Yeah - despite a lot of hype for this game on a lot of sites that's frequent, I found the game to be grindy and rather dull.
People tend to give the benefit of the doubt to indie games. Even I do that, though only when it comes to art and production values - gameplay should be well thought out whether it's indie or not.
Some of that may have to do with the price of indies, which is often $5 or less, versus the standard $60 price tag for an AAA game. It's easier to look by a game's flaws when you have less skin in the game.
